The Department of Youth and Community Development has launched the new Advance & Earn program, in partnership with the Mayor’s Office for Economic Opportunity and the Young Men’s Initiative. Advance & Earn will offer comprehensive education, training, and employment services to “opportunity youth” — youth ages 16–24 who are not working or in school — in New York City.

The Advance & Earn model builds on learnings from implementing and evaluating our Young Adult Internship Program (now known as Intern & Earn) and Young Adult Literacy models, and is informed by extensive research and stakeholder feedback. Advance & Earn will offer robust services and seamless transitions from education to advanced training and job placement. The goal is to support participants’ personalized career pathways to better meet their needs and to align with the City’s vision for upward mobility outlined in Career Pathways: One City Working Together. The advanced trainings currently offered through the program are aligned with the Career Pathways key sectors, as well as service provider input on labor market demand.

Advance & Earn provides advanced training in the following sectors and occupations:

  • Masonry and Landscaping (Construction Sector)
  • Certified Nurse’s Aide and EKG/Phlebotomy Technician
  • Culinary Arts
  • Digital Marketing / Cloud Support Engineer
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Direct Support Professional (DSP)

It has six service providers, across the five boroughs:

  • Opportunities for A Better Tomorrow, Inc.
  • The Door — A Center of Alternatives, Inc.
  • Child Development Center of the Mosholu-Montefiore Community Center
  • Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center, Inc.
  • Commonpoint Queens Sam Field Center YWHA, Inc.
  • NYSARC, Inc., NYC Chapter

All providers are currently accepting applications.
